I often think of Mean Girls when I’m planning social media for the companies that I manage. Especially when I’m creating a campaign that will include a hashtag. I definitely hear Regina George in my head.
If you’re going to be a communication professional you’re going to spend a lot of time creating campaigns and working to grow them. Sometimes you’re going to feel like Gretchen Weiners trying to “make fetch happen.” Some campaigns will result in great engagement while others will fall flat. Don’t give up or get discouraged just because one campaign didn’t work. Sometimes you have to stop trying to make it happen and move on. Try again. Just don’t do anything that will land you as the joke of the day on Buzzfeed. That’s every social media manager’s worst nightmare.
